We were to have been met by our friends Dee Ann and Clark, they had lived in Australia for several years, and were frequent visitors to Bridgetown, staying at Ford house actually.
Dee Ann bought many of my bears over the years, and took them back to the US with her.
On the day of our arrival, they had to a funeral in New York, so we were met by Wolf, their driver, holding a teddy bear in one hand and a sign in the other saying Berzel. He took us to Dee Ann and Clark's beautiful apartment in Alexandria, Maryland, just over the border from DC.
They arrived back next evening and we had a great time with them over the next four days.
Of course Dee Ann and I had to go the the Boyd's bear barn, a whole three floors devoted to bears. I was pretty good and only bought some small bears to take home for presents.
Walter had been waiting to go the the Smithsonian, you really need mch more time than we had, to go there, but he enjoyed the Spy museum. Walter and I went to Arlington cemertary and saw the very impressive changing of the guard. The prescision of the whole thing is just incredible, watching the soldiers move up and down, and the guard changing is spectacular to say the least.
From DC, we flew to Boston, took the bus to Hyannis-port and the ferry to Nantucket. Those of you who read about my first trip will know how much I loved it . Well I loved it just as much this time, and so did Walter, if fact he organised for us to stay an extra day. It really is an enchanting place, we even managed to stay at the same Inn as before, and it hadn't changed at all.
Returning from there we took the bus to Vermont, passing through the beautiful New England country side, and we were met by our dear friends Kay and Ron, they had moved since my visit with them in 1997, to their own lovely home at North Ferrisburgh. It was so good to see them again and we really had a marvellous time. They both had to work so we were able to borrow one of their cars and explore the stunning Vermont country side. Their home is set on 10 acres, of which only 5 is cleared, so it has all these trees in glorious fall colours., and you can see the lake just across the way.
We went back to most of the places I had visited before, Walter really liked the Von Trapp chateau, and the setting it is in. After a fabulous week we were off again, this time to San Diego, from where we would begin our 30 train trip, that would bring us back to Vermont for Thanksgiving.

Nice as always, Jacqui
Love the light effect on the changing of the guard, bet you can't do it again.
